We proudly encourage an "ideas culture", where all members of our team know that part of their job is looking for ways to do things better and smarter. It's why all areas of our business - from programming, through to sales, administration, broadcast operations and technical services - consistently deliver above expectations.

MLC

MLC is the wealth management division of the National Australia Bank (NAB). MLC provides investment, superannuation, insurance and private wealth solutions to corporate and institutional customers.

MLC supports the provision of quality financial advice through its financial planning networks including NAB Financial Planning, Godfrey Pembroke, Garvan Financial Planning, MLC Financial Planning and Apogee Financial Planning.

MLC manages more than $85 billion on behalf of individual investors and corporate customers in Australia (as at September 2009).

MLC uses a 'manager of managers' investment approach. This means MLC does not directly manage investment funds. Instead, MLC's multi-manager options combine the expertise of up to 32 leading investment managers from around the world. This approach gives investors access to a combination of individually selected investment managers providing diversity across asset classes, within asset classes and across investment styles. The aim is to provide greater consistency of performance in variable market conditions compared to a single manager and significantly reduce risk without compromising the overall return. MLC is the third largest multi-manager in the world, with 8% of the world market share (Cerulli Associates - Cerulli Quantitative Update: Global Multi-manager Products 2008).

MLC holds the number one position for personal insurance annual inforce premiums with 14.1% market share (source: DEXX&R Life Analysis as at June 2009) and is the second largest provider of superannuation in Australia with 16.4% market share (source: Plan for Life Quarterly Data System as at June 2009).

MLC is the partner of choice for around 1,300 self-employed aligned and salaried advisers in Australia and holds relationships with more than 3,000 independently owned and licensed advisers who choose MLC's financial solutions to meet the needs of their clients.

McDonald's

The McDonald's story started in 1955 in Chicago, Illinois USA when Ray Kroc opened the first franchised McDonald’s restaurant. There are now 30,000 McDonald’s restaurants in 119 countries around the world, serving 50 million customers every day.

The first McDonald’s restaurant opened in Australia in the western suburbs of Sydney in 1971. There are now (as at 31 December 2007) 761 McDonald’s restaurants across Australia serving 1.2 million customers every day.

Australia, along with the United States, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil, China and Japan, is considered to be a ‘major market’ for McDonald’s worldwide. These nine ‘major markets’ contain nearly 80 per cent of the McDonald’s restaurants in the world.

McDonald’s Australia Limited is an unlisted Australian public company limited by shares. It is a franchise business with around two thirds of the restaurants in Australia run by franchisees. The remainder are operated by company staff. Most franchisees enter into a twenty year agreement with McDonald’s.

McDonald’s and its franchisees employ approximately 65,000 people in restaurants and management offices across Australia.

Corporate governance

Corporate responsibility begins at the top and McDonald’s Australia is governed by a Board of Directors that provides a diverse mix of experience from both within and outside McDonald’s and is committed to the integrity of the organisation.

The Managing Director works closely with a Top Management Team (TMT) who represent all the key departments within the company. This team meets regularly to discuss current issues, the progress of major projects and to develop and review company direction.

The operation of McDonald’s Australia is also directed by the global McDonald’s System. This System is decentralised but provides a framework to ensure McDonald’s operations in every country adhere to the same core values, principles and standards.

For McDonald’s employees worldwide, the overall framework for ethical business practices is our Standards of Business Conduct. These guidelines apply to all salaried employees worldwide, including restaurant managers. The Standards of Business Conduct provide an orientation to ethical business behaviour, offer guidance in a wide range of issue areas, set out McDonald’s core values and identify resources for questions and concerns.

Acting in a responsible and ethical manner is the responsibility, and our expectation, of all McDonald’s Australia employees and it is a fundamental aspect of the organisation’s culture.
