3. Changing the face of retail

BOC has spent $20 million revamping its Gas & Gear stores nationwide to create a pleasant retail shopping experience as opposed to the industrial supplies store of the past. Stores were redesigned to ensure consistent layout in each store with a compelling design and easy access for BOC's customers.

BOC's vision for Gas & Gear is to be recognised as the benchmark for retail excellence within BOC. It also strives to be a leader in its class within the broader South Pacific retail industry.

In order to understand the change required and how best to manage it, BOC undertook a SWOT analysis of the Gas & Gear stores.

The overall change fitted in with the long term goals of the businessand its vision and objectives. Its primary focus was the well-being and development of its employees and improvement in the levels of customer and supplier satisfaction.

The next step was to put together a comprehensive change management strategy for implementation, ensuring that employees received clear communication about the change process.
