KFC/Yum! Restaurants

KFC Australia

A young Canadian named Bob Lapointe started the fast food revolution in Australia in 1968 when he opened the first KFC (formerly Kentucky Fried Chicken) restaurant at Guildford in Sydney's western suburbs.

The first KFC restaurant was built on this site and opened on 27th April 1968, with a staff of 25.

KFC now has more than 600 stores in Australia and New Zealand, which are company owned or franchised.

There are over 12,000 employees working on a permanent and casual basis at KFC in Australia and 3,200 in New Zealand.

Yum! Company Profile

Yum! Restaurants International (YRI), based in Dallas, Texas, is the largest division of Yum! Brands with more than 12,000 restaurants outside the U.S. (excluding Yum! China Division).

One of Yum! Brands' four key business strategies is to drive profitable international growth. In 2007, operating profits for YRI were more than $480 million. 2007 was the eighth straight year that YRI (excluding Yum! China Division) has opened more than 700 new restaurants outside the U.S. We've achieved this growth while more than doubling our operating profits since Yum! Brands became a public company in 1997.

We have strong local teams around the world, operate in more than 110 countries and territories with established supply chains and have over 750 international franchisees. Our franchise and joint-venture partners are driving growth by opening 90 percent of our new international restaurants.

We continue to show the power of our global portfolio of leading restaurant brands, including KFC and Pizza Hut, fueled by continued profitable international expansion. Our international business is one of the key factors that makes us truly unique in the restaurant industry.
